Abstract
Physical inactivity (PIA) is pervasive in office environments, putting desk-bound workers at heightened risk of serious health issues. To help designers and researchers develop behavioral interventions that better align with end-user (desk-bound worker) contexts, we propose Context4Change (C4C), a participatory framework integrating behavioral and contextual design methods. C4C addresses shortcomings in existing top-down or technocratic approaches by emphasizing user experiences and contextual understanding. Through design workshops with diverse stakeholders (designers, researchers, and desk-bound workers), we identified key participant roles, interaction needs, and avenues for improving contextual communication. Our findings reveal how C4C broadens designers’ perspectives, empowers users to articulate needs, and helps researchers translate contextual insights into actionable intervention objectives. In future work, we will refine C4C's processes to enhance its accessibility and conduct further multi-stakeholder studies to extend its impact on contextual intervention solutions for PIA in diverse workplace contexts.
