Personal profile

Research Interests

As a lecturer–researcher, I investigate the motivations and behaviours of recreational runners and design technologies that support safe and sustainable running. My work lies at the intersection of sport science, behavioural analysis, and design. Within the Move to Be research group, I contribute to projects such as PA Scan and the Dynamic School Day, both aimed at integrating physical activity into educational settings. I also collaborate on Forest Education Lessons, a professional training programme for outdoor education, and on the Comenius Resilienceproject, which explores how nature‑based learning can strengthen student resilience

Bio

My academic background spans sport, movement, and design‑driven research. I completed a Bachelor of Physical Education at Fontys University of Applied Sciences (2006–2009), followed by a Master’s degree in Human Movement Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2010–2012). I subsequently earned my PhD at the Department of Industrial Design of Eindhoven University of Technology, where in 2022 I defended my dissertation on the motivations and behavioural patterns of recreational runners and the design of technologies tailored to their needs.

My research portfolio includes studies on the use of sports technology, user profiles of recreational runners, and personalised digital coaching, leading to multiple peer‑reviewed publications. Within Fontys, I contribute to research projects promoting sustained physical activity. These include PA Scan and the Dynamic School Day, which focus on embedding movement in school routines. I also collaborate on Forest Lessons, a training programme for teachers grounded in outdoor experiential learning, and on the Comenius Resilience project, which examines the role of nature‑based challenges in strengthening the resilience of teacher education students. Together, these activities align with the themes Learning to Move and Active Lifestyles, and reinforce strong links between research, education, and professional practice.
